New and Improved 2007 Property Tax Notices The 2007 Property Tax Notices will include expanded information to the taxpayer with a tear-off portion for return mailing. A return envelope will be provided for your convenience. Payment Drop Box at Drive-Thru Window Coming Fall 2007 Online Research and Payment You may research your property tax account to verify the amount of your taxes or that your mortgage company has paid your taxes. Online payment can be made by credit card or e-check. Sumner County does not receive any portion of the convenience fee. Payment Options Payment of property taxes can be made in our office, at our drive-thru window, by mail, online, or at participating area banks. A listing of participating banks can be found on the back of your 2007 Property Tax Notice. Tax Relief payments cannot be accepted at the drive-thru or at area banks. The current €œ2007€ taxes are due and payable beginning October 1, 2007 through February 29, 2008. ******************************************************** The Trustee generally acts as treasurer or banker for the county and serves three primary functions: (1) collecting all county property taxes (all property, real and personal, tangible and intangible, must be assessed for taxation by the state or its political subdivisions unless property is declared to be exempt by some provision of Tennessee law); (2) keeping a fair regular account of all money received; and (3) investing temporarily idle county funds. The Trustee administers a State funded Tax Relief Program to help the elderly, disabled, and disabled veterans (or surviving spouse of a disabled veteran or veteran whose death resulted from a service-connected cause) pay their property taxes. In addition, the Trustee administers a County funded Tax Relief Program for elderly citizens. Applications must be completed no later than 35 days after the February tax payment deadline.
